the drill would attach top the other end of the boring bar, not the reduction unit it's self. the reduction unit would be conected to the bar& the threaded end would be bolted to some stationary part so it could pull or push. If the screw has 16 threads per inch the case will have the same where it is bored(and that dont work), but if the gear reduction unit is used it will slow down the feed but keep it constaint for a good finish&size. or it may be for the feed so it slows down the feed so it dosent try to thread the case, thats probably how that one works, to push or pull the boring bar through the case.
